Wall Portraits – What size do will look the best?

April 29, 2013

So what size do I need? I have no idea! Something I hear often when talking about Wall Portraits so lets try and work through it.

When having portraits done its always difficult to decide what the right size for the space in your home would be. So I have written this post just to try and help understand the size of prints.

I hope this will be helpful for more than just my wall portraits – this really applies to any art or print that you might want to put on your wall.

Sometimes its hard to visualise the right size so here we go.

Firstly – Where is the piece going? Easiest way to think about this is in chair sizes. Is it going into the space where one chair is, or is it over a 2 seater couch space, or a 3 seater couch space? Its best to measure the wall that you plan to put the work on to see exactly what size the space is first.

Here are some examples of what images look like over a couch.

This first image gives you 4 different sizes over a 3 seater couch. You can see that the largest one looks like the best fit, the rest start to look a little small when you see them in comparison.

over the 2 seater you can see that the largest looks to big.

You can put a group of smaller images together over a couch space to fill the space like in this example.

With the correct size over each space it makes a great décor addition to any room.

If the piece is to small it just doesn’t look correct.

It also makes a difference if the piece is vertical or horizontal.

If you are going to go to all the trouble of having professional photographs taken, we want to make sure they look fantastic in your home so If you’re having a photo shoot with us and you have a space in mind take a quick snapshot of it and we can put your photographs into the space so that you can see exactly what the space will look like before making the decision as to what size and shape will suit your space

and one last comment.

Fun in the Sun – Brothers

April 28, 2013

These guys were so much fun to work with today. One of the best things about being a photographer is that you get to photograph your local community. These guys are part of our school community and a couple of my favourite characters. We had a great time at the beach today – the sun was shining and the boys were having a great time. I love fun shoots like this that show the life and fun in kids. Thanks guys for a great Photo Shoot. Look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We are making some changes again!! But they are all great!

April 17, 2013

OK, time to announce that I am expanding my business.

For all my wonderful clients who are more like friends and family, and for all my fans my business will remain basically the same, great quality, great service and great prices. I am teaming up with Chesser Street Studios.

Anne and I are friends from way back and we think that the time has come to join forces and be amazing. The studio at Panorama will still be available as well as location shoots etc.

We will be working hard in the next few months to bring it all together but I will make sure that all info will continue to appear here as well as on my current blog, and the new blog and facebook page that is currently in the design phase for Chesser Street Studios.

The great news is that we will be doing some amazing specials over the next few months and will be launching some fantastic events so stay tuned :-)

What an amazing little man – Introducing Noah

March 22, 2013

I just love days where you can wait around for new characters to fall asleep but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. Then i love it when you download the images and they are just fantastic. Noah kept me under surveillance today. One eye open checking out what I was up to.  Was a very lovely morning chatting and talking to him and his mum.

Must admit my new white floor and white basket are a new favourite. I hope you all enjoy them too.

Thanks Noah for hanging out with me today, look forward to seeing you soon and showing your mum the amazing portraits.

When I photographed the baby bump with Charlotte still inside, Amie mentioned that she couldn’t wait to meet her little princess. Sparked this idea and today we photographed Princess Charlotte. Thanks Matt and Amie for a fantastic session, you guys are awesome parents, so switched on to what she needs. I know you are going to love this image.

Behind the Scenes – Marilyn Inspired Glamour.

March 4, 2013

Sometimes it’s nice to show what goes on behind the scenes at a photo shoot. I recently did a glamour Marilyn Monroe inspired shoot that we did some video on to create this little behind the scenes footage.  Enjoy your Monday and have a great week everyone.
